Pro-Israel Group held rally in Parliament

More than 200 people carrying olive branches gathered on the steps of Parliament yesterday (Jan14) and urged people in New Zealand to look at both sides of the conflict in Gaza.

Protesters - Jewish and non-Jewish waved Israel flags, olive branches and placards saying, "Palestinian Yes, Hamas NO!

Israeli-born organizer Tomer Sagi says the purpose of the rally was to demonstrate that Israel has been trying to achieve peace.

On the other hand, Wellington Regional Jewish Council said that Israel has the right to self-Defense.

As of press time, more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed during Israel's 19-day war in Gaza, Palestinian medical officials have said, as clashes continue throughout the Strip.

Civilians make up about 40 per cent of casualties with children accounting for a third of the dead, aid agencies and Palestinian medics said.
