Hundred of Palestine supporters staged protest at Civic Square today in Wellington by die-in to commemorated the deaths of more than 800 people in Gaza over the last two weeks.
The peaceful non-violent symbolic representation of the loss of life is being organised by Christians for Justice in Palestine to highlight the need for our Government to play an active international role in support of human rights.
Protestors are concerned that the lives of innocent individuals in the Gaza strip and Israel continue to be lost while the international community quibbles.
According to John Maynard of CJP,Israel behaving as an aggressor nation ,justifies its current attack on Gaza as an action to stop Hamas rocket attacks.
He said the group asked for an immediate ceasefire on both sides.
"Israel to end the current bombing and invasion of the Gaza Strip. Hamas to end the rocket attack on Israel. Israel to end its decades long reign of terror against the Palestinian people. Israel to right the decades of injustices that have been inflicted on the Palestinian people", Maynard said.
Christians for Justice in Palestine supports the calls for
- cutting ties with the Canberra based Israeli Embassy,
- preventing exports or electronic equipment from New Zealand that could be used to support military attacks, and
- increasing aid and support for the Palestinian people suffering under an army of occupation.

On the other hand, Wellington Regional Jewish Council Chairman David Zwartz said the use of children in political protests was wrong.
The children's presence was manipulative and an infringement of their rights.
Christians for Justice in Palestine is an ecumenical group. The organising group welcomes all who wish to participate – whatever their faith – believers and non-believers.
