People have been queuing to vote in the general election at some of the country's 2,700 polling stations, which opened their doors at 9am.
Some people voters have suggested New Zealand should be more like America in opening the polls at 7am.
Just under three million people, or 94.8 percent of those eligible to vote have enrolled this year. The polls close at 7pm.
The Chief Electoral Office predicts the results will start filtering through from around 8.30pm with 50 percent of polling places counted by 10pm and a final result through by 11.30pm.
