Annual work stoppages decrease


Four work stoppages ended in the September 2009 quarter and 18 work stoppages ended in the September 2009 year, Statistics New Zealand said today.

Stoppages in the September 2009 year involved 2,010 employees, and losses of 1,382 person-days of work and an estimated $0.3 million in wages and salaries.

In comparison, the 30 stoppages in the September 2008 year involved 5,401 employees, and losses of 10,782 person-days of work and an estimated $2.7 million in wages and salaries.

The four stoppages that ended in the September 2009 quarter were comprised of two complete strikes and two partial strikes. Fifteen complete and three partial strikes ended in the September 2009 year.
