Phil Goff has been named the new leader of the Labour party.
Goff has been swept in to the party's top job after Helen Clark stepped down on Saturday night following National's emphatic win.
The senior cabinet minister who first came to Parliament in 1981 - the same year as Clark - was the clear favourite for the position and was almost assured of the job.
Annette King has been named as Goff's deputy.
David Cunliffe has been announced as the party's Finance spokesperson.
