Petrol price falls by 6c a litre

At least 6c a litre cut for the price of petrol and diesel was announced byt Shell and BP today.

Shell was first to make its move, saying fuel at most of its outlets was now at 166.9c a litre for 91 octane, 171.9c for 95 octane and 125.9c for diesel.

It said a stabilising of the New Zealand dollar and a continued fall in the barrel price of oil were reasons for the decrease, but warned that the market remained volatile.

Since July 17, petrol has dropped 52c a litre and diesel 66c a litre.

BP followed suit also dropping 6c a litre of the price of petrol and diesel, so that most BP-owned service stations matched Shell's pump prices.
